[opensuse-factory] New Freetype 2.7 subpixel rendering mode?
Hi everyone, I was expecting to find some new environment variables after the upgrade (and reboot) to the current Tumbleweed snapshot with Freetype 2.7. But I'm not seeing any difference in fonts, and I also don't see any of the environments variables activated that are mentioned here: - https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2016-10/msg00303.html - https://sourceforge.net/projects/freetype/files/freetype2/2.7/ - https://sourceforge.net/projects/freetype/files/freetype2/2.6.4/ I understood the Tumbleweed release announcement to mean that the new subpixel rendering mode would be activated by default, but I'm not sure if I have to explicitly set those variables, which ones, and where to set them? And another update: Wine applications look like garbage with the default configuration now: https://s15.postimg.org/sstbeos9z/Screenshot_from_2016_10_12_15_48_31.png Here's what it looks like with the environment variables explicitly set: FREETYPE_PROPERTIES=truetype:interpreter-version=35\ cff:no-stem-darkening=1\ autofitter:warping=1 winecfg https://s15.postimg.org/z7scbcyzr/Screenshot_from_2016_10_12_15_49_02.png -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Sorry, my screenshots were unreadable. Here's another try: With new Tumbleweed defaults: https://s12.postimg.org/tqjuuxukd/Screenshot_from_2016_10_12_15_48_31.png FREETYPE_PROPERTIES=truetype:interpreter-version=35 winecfg https://s10.postimg.org/ix0jr15h5/Screenshot_from_2016_10_12_15_49_02.png -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

The new SUBPIXEL HINTING is enabled in freetype - but there is no need for a ENV Variable to be set for everybody: the library has its internal defaults (that are different to what 2.6 used). The variable FREETYPE_PROPERTIES *CAN* be set by a user to influence how the rendering works - you have to set it yourself if you want to change from the defaults. Cheers, Dominique
