[opensuse-factory] Can't boot 12.3 GNOME live CD
![](https://seccdn.libravatar.org/avatar/9fdc1bb88c7d52bbeabd2c98927acd18.jpg?s=120&d=mm&r=g)
I can't boot to the Gnome live CD for 12.3. I can't even do a media check, it stops at the line "sr 2:0:0:0 Attached scsi generic sg1 type 5." Booting to Gnome, I only get as far as the green wallpaper and wait 10-15 minutes, but it goes no further. It seems to quit, looking at my CPU monitor. I'm trying to run 12.3 in VirtualBox OSE with 1536MB RAM. The image passes the checksum. Are there any known issues with this? I don't know if it is related to. I was trying to boot openSUSE 12.3 GNOME Live CD-i686 into already installed openSUSE 12.1 and 12.2 x86_64 with similar above outcome (you mentiioned). Instead, booting from openSUSE 12.1 or 12.2 x86 (32-bit) made the trick. Have you tried booting from 32-bit or 64-bit Live CD ? Both Media (32 and 64 bit) Checksum is OK. So we can discard that issue. I am not sure why (I would speculate it). It worked for me. In case it's possible try to boot 64 bit Live CD into 64 bit host to know it makes a difference. If it works please post it here. I don't think VBox supports 64 bit. I've never had luck with it anyway. Gave it a try anyway, and openSUSE 12.3 tells me I have a 32-bit machine. Jon -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

My system is 64-bit. For whatever reason, the CPU control is disabled and set to one CPU by default. It's never been necessary to investigate it, but now I'm wondering. But even when the underlying system is 64 bit, under certain circumstances, CPU hardware related, you can't run a 64 bit system as guest. -- fr.gr. Freek de Kruijf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I've tried the 32-bit image on a VM, and both the 32- and 64-bit CDs on my computer. All three fail on my system. I have a Core 2 CPU and 4GB RAM. It sounds like it's only working in particular cases. Jon -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I installed the 32-bit in VBox to init 3, and that's partly successful. I can't switch to init 5. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Check Users you want to use VirtualBox have the proper permission or they are included in Virtualization Users Group. YaST2 has a nice Graphic User Interface to manage Users and Users Group. After add the proper user to Virtualization Users Group you may need to reboot. Yea, I'm in the vboxusers group. I can't boot to the CD on my computer, either, 32- or 64-bit. Tried on an older pentium box and could only the text login. The only thing that's at least partly worked is installing a VM to init 3, but I can't switch to init 5 from there. I guess I'll wait and check M1.
