[opensuse-factory] Forgot to install grub, after removing grub2. How to install bootloader from minimal-bash?
![](https://seccdn.libravatar.org/avatar/5ee041390736688c9a52e5d5cf2c3be2.jpg?s=120&d=mm&r=g)
Hi, I just tried to install grub, and removed grub2. zypper said grub legacy already installed, and removed grub2. After reboot, grub was not 'in command' forgot, did not think about to install it. What command is needed to boot the kernel, or rather, install a bootloader? 122 install disc only has cli rescue, but is not usable at that point. 122 lacks the repair option/boot installed os at install point. Any suggestions as to how to get a complete system booted from zero, without having to install everything new?? Written from another box of course... How about using the distribution media and using repair a current system. -- fr.gr. Freek de Kruijf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Am i too cryptic? the 'ditribution media' lack this feature nowadays... Repair from before the kernel is booted is not in my grasp. Need to know the commands to do that. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

What do you mean by "grub was not 'in command'"?

It's actually very easy if you can bring up a Grub prompt either via rescue boot or another installed version on a multiboot system: http://orgs.man.ac.uk/documentation/grub/grub_3.html#SEC9 The specifics depend on your partitioning and whether 12.2 is the only installed OS. I usually use a Knoppix CD when I need to do this. It's how I set up Grub on a previously empty HD, before installing any OS, so that I can install via HTTP. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." What do you mean by "grub was not 'in command'"? It was not 'loaded'. grub2 uninstalled, and left a 'void'.. ;-) Just before the bootloader should show up...

There is no os visible, it is in the first stage, just behind the bios. And W7 is on it on chainloader+1

i can try knoppix, have one lying around here somewhere... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Please, this is not a conversation for the factory mail list either, you are using 12.2. We are spamming this list if we answer here. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
