I guess my answer to that would be: "I think it should also feature
the chameleon. Neither is recognisable as an openSUSE logo, imho.

So how is this different from the Leap logo?
I could not find a "leap" logo... can you provide a link for reference?
It is right on opensuse.org (frontpage), next to the Tumbleweed icon. Can't miss it.

No, I think what you describe as logos are merely icons.
I completely agree. My suggestion is to replace the icons (infinity icon and orthographic leap icon) with logos which integrate the openSUSE chameleon to make them look like an official part of openSUSE, rather than just names with icons over them.
