[opensuse-factory] Nvidia problem TW 20201110
Hi, after a zypper dup from 20201105 to 20201110 the X-server does not start anymore. Had to roll back to the earlier snapshot. The nvidia driver failed to compile during installation: .... True, Stefan?
Yes, nothing wrong with it. I don't plan to package NVIDIA's short lived branch 455.xx. I will stay on 450.xx until a new long lived branch will be available. so, strange that the driver building does not find it. you could try to install the nvidia driver the "hard way": https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us#axzz41lNap91r https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/ https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/unix/ https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_the_hard_way -- Best Regards | Freundliche Grüße | Cordialement | Cordiali Saluti | Atenciosamente | Saludos Cordiales *DI Rainer Klier* DevOps, Research & Development

you could try to install the nvidia driver the "hard way":

Dont get me wrong, but I try to avoid manual installations of these drivers :-) As we have seen this isue from 2 more people I guess we can call it 'confirmed'. As kernel 5.9.8 is in staging (see Dimstars mail) - lets wait how this works Cheers Axel

FWIW, I'm seeing the same trying to update to the current Tumbleweed and kernel-5.9.1-2-default. Booting with kernel-5.9.1-1-default still works, though. I have the NVidia G05 drivers installed from the NVidia openSUSE Tumbleweed repository and see that compile error in /var/log/zypp/history. Robert Kaiser
I am seeing the same behavior as Robert, and also using G05 (for a 1080 Ti). Cannot boot using the kernel suffixed with -2, but -1 still works. Seeing the same errors about libbfd in the log. The error might be misleading, because the library itself seems to be present in the system: $ rpm -qf /usr/lib64/libbfd-2.35.0.20200915-1.so binutils-2.35-1.1.x86_64 avindra goolcharan On Thu, Nov 12, 2020 at 1:58 PM Robert Kaiser <kairo@kairo.at> wrote:
