[opensuse-factory] nVidia GeForce Go 6150 on Suse 10.2 x86_64
Hi, I am trying to run OpenSuse-10.2 for x86_64 with an nVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 graphics card, right now i do not have any nvidia drivers installed and the graphics is suboptimal. nVidias latest version of the driver for x86_64( 1.0-9746 ) does not have GeForce Go 6150 in the list of supported cards for linux drivers. Is there anything I can do to run this card at 1280x800(as it does in windows ) , instead of the bloated 800x600 (i guess) its running now. If it is not in the list, does not meant it does not work, install the driver and **try** it yourself zyyper -vv sa ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/10.2 zypper -vv install x11-video-nvidia nvidia-gfx-kmp-default rcxdm restart

The nvidia driver requires a little more than an update to the pc_ids to fully support this chipset. (It works correctly under X11 but the console VT's don't work right after the nvidia driver has loaded... Problem looks like a bit like a horizontal CRT sync issue) However, the nv driver will work at 1280X800... which is OK until you need 3D. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

That sounds rather like a configuration problem which I had a long time ago (1.0-76xx) where the kernel was loading the nv_agp module which it shouldn't have - no problems since. I have 1.0-9764 installed on two boxes x86 and x86_64 without VT problems. # lsmod|grep nv nvidia 4715092 28 agpgart 33616 1 nvidia My card on the 64x2 box # lspci|grep VGA 00:05.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C51PV [GeForce 6150] (rev a2)
However, the nv driver will work at 1280X800... which is OK until you need 3D. ---------------------------------------------------------------------

I see 1.0-9746 supports the GeForce 6150 and GeForce 6150 LE cards. The legacy driver 1.0-7184 does not mention a GeForce Go 6150. Are you sure it's not one of the former? The NVidia Linux forum http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=14 is excellent for all things NVidia.

actually reconfing using sax2 is running my display at 1280x800..so dint really try the nvidia thing , is there something i am missing out.because i am not running native drivers....i really dont play games that much!! Also I cannot make out what driver is currently running my display , this is part of the lsmod output which hints its i2c_nforce2 ?? digz-AMD:~ # lsmod xt_tcpudp 20352 5 xt_pkttype 18816 3 xt_limit 20224 9 xt_state 19200 12 i2c_nforce2 24960 0 i2c_core 41472 1 i2c_nforce2 forcedeth 60548 0 edd 27912 0 sg 55080 0 --Thx Digz On 12/30/06, Sid Boyce <sboyce@blueyonder.co.uk> wrote:

Games, FlightGear and such are the ones that needs 3D acceleration, so you are probably not missing out on anything. i2c is something completely different, it's a bus for monotoring hardware, temperature sensors, etc. Regards Sid.

zyyper -vv sa ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/10.2 zypper -vv install x11-video-nvidia nvidia-gfx-kmp-default rcxdm restart
my X server did not start and this is what I got when i tried to use sax2 to configue it using nvidia , supposedly the nvidia module is unable to detect an nvidia device : right now I reconfigured it using sax2 -m 0=nv (II) Setting vga for screen 0.
