[opensuse-factory] 11.4 m4 on a x86-64
Hey Group; Fresh install of openSuSE confirmed good DVD straight to the hardisk. I am just about to dump openSuSE because, So much of it is just broken but the X Windows stuff and some of that fails. On a machine with an Athlon 64 with 1 Gig of memory and lots of HD will not compile a factory linux-2.6.37.# kernel using /proc/config.gz (implying .config.gz doesn't agree with "make menuconfig") and other problems are X windows being forced to use drm and nouveau have the monitor not centered and so dark a sheet over the monitor and your head is needed to see it in the dark. Plus Amarok and Blinder fail. And finally! The mouse at console fails to work even after configured with Yast2 and restarted. Oh yea! at bootup while in VGA the monitor is very bright. openSuSE did fix postgresql so that it now boots -- 73 de Donn Washburn 307 Savoy Street Email:" n5xwb@comcast.net " Sugar Land, TX 77478 LL# 1.281.242.3256 Ham Callsign N5XWB HAMs : " n5xwb@arrl.net " VoIP via Gizmo: bmw_87kbike / via Skype: n5xwbg BMW MOA #: 4146 - Ambassador " http://counter.li.org " #279316 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Donn, You do know you are by definition not running stable software, right? There are still 4 months before 11.4 is released. So while the feedback I'm sure is useful, especially if you put it into bugzilla, it is no reason to "dump" openSUSE. Something else is the problem, 11.4 M4 is not broken. Everything Donn says he has problems with runs here on a i586 box, 2 x86_64 boxes and a 11.3 x86_64 box. I already opened a bug for the gpm not working in tty, no feedback to date, bug #645202 opened 2010-10-09. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... The kernel-source didn't match kernel-desktop. I am using build 908 11.4 M4 DVD and I'm not experiencing any X problems.
I have installed Nvidia drivers also without any hiccups. :-) Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

i noticed it was broken, but that's where the new 'factory-tested' repos came in handy. waiting a few more days in case my mirror isn't the freshest one, then back to factory. apart from that there's a few more unscheduled crashes than on 11.3 / KDE 4.5, but nothing reproducible or horribly wrong, and not unexpected with running both oS & KDE in beta. -- phani. http://openqa.opensuse.org/ would be the first place to check. Klaus --- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

look here: http://download.opensuse.org/factory/iso/ the error with X11 that prevented factory from working has been solved. i installed from build 0909 a few days ago, got hit by the X11 error and did a "distribution update" from the "factory-tested" repos, which worked. a couple hours ago i switched to the factory repos again, and everything is fine. there's a few newer builds available in the location i mentioned above, but i haven't tried these. i suspect that at least the latest build will be working & installable. by the way, in this list top posting is frowned upon, because it makes it more difficult to understand the flow of a discussion, and to insert comments inline. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
