[opensuse-factory] Kernel panic and no adsl with 12.3

Today I installed the 12.3 final version, after 2 days of downloading the iso. The first impresion was good, compared with 12.2, at least the installer selected the right system partition, because I hatte in a partition 12.2 and in other 12.1, and it selected the 12.1 partitio to format and install on it. The Grub installer and the first boot worked fine, but the problem apeared in the automatic configuration, because at 85% I got a kernel panic, and any time I rebboted and go to the automatic configuration receibed the kernel panic. The only way to get the system aup, was cancelling the the automatic configuration. The other problem, is with Yast and the adsl module, it requested to install the smpppd package, and it was installed from the dvd, but do'nt find a way to get the adsl device up, to connect to internet. I'm using now the 12.2 version They are a 2 years old bug about this problem, and never resolved for the first install, because one must try to install some packages experimenting with some times with a package from the before version of the distribution, until get the adsl connection up: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=721872 I attached the /var/log/warn file Thanks, Juan -- USA LINUX OPENSUSE QUE ES SOFTWARE LIBRE, NO NECESITAS PIRATEAR NADA Y NI TE VAS A PREOCUPAR MAS POR LOS VIRUS Y SPYWARES: http://www.opensuse.org/es/ Puedes visitar mi blog en: http://jerbes.blogspot.com.ar/

Can you capture the kernel oops ? the "warn" file you sent indeed has indication of an OOPS, however there is no information beyond: Oops: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP· 177 2013-03-15T10:52:29.696056-03:00 linux-byat kernel: [ 111.110369] Modules linked in: cx8800(+) snd_seq snd_seq_device snd_ctxfi snd_hda_codec_hdmi snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep... an that's all..the system reboot after that apparently.. Other interesting things: ACPI BIOS Bug: Warning: Incorrect checksum in table [TAMG] - 0x45, should be 0x44 (20120913/tbutils-324) ..if there is any BIOS update for the machine, plz apply them. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, it appear to be a conflict betwen the X-Fi sound card and the ATI Wonder TV card (drivers snd_ctxfi and cx8800). About the bios, I do'nt found a update: http://ar.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3412#bios
About the BIOS: Please, go into the Bios-Menu, change some harmless config (e.g. Fans to the max), save, reboot, go again into Bios-Menu, undo the change from before, save, boot. That should eliminate the BIOS error, IF, and only if the error was in the config area. If the BIOS error is still there, try to (re-)install the latest version of the BIOS again. That should eliminate the checksum error. About the conflict between X-Fi sound (snd_ctxfi) and ATI Wonder TV (cx8800), try to disable one of them, to get past the conflict. Then the config for one or both of them has to be modified, but on the howto, I can't give you help (lack of knowlege). - Yamaban.

After the update of the bios, hera is attached the new warn file. But I must to continue using 12.2, because was imposible to connect to internet via adsl: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=721872 The other problem can be related to the fail of the automatic configuration, because I must add the defaul user via yast, and I must to login first, and then continues to load KDE. OK, but why you are sending the "warn" file ? that is not what we need. Boot a 12.3 live cd and send the output of journalctl -b -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
