[opensuse-factory] openSUSE 12.3 A Fine Release!
Well SUSE team you've done a stirling effort with 12.3! Just booted up RC2 to find that my bug in Beta and RC1 where incorrect power stats where provided has been squashed - https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804197 linux@linux:~> acpi -V Battery 0: Discharging, 65%, 01:57:34 remaining Battery 0: design capacity 5600 mAh, last full capacity 5055 mAh = 90% Adapter 0: off-line Thermal 0: ok, 51.5 degrees C Thermal 0: trip point 0 switches to mode critical at temperature 99.0 degrees C Cooling 0: Processor 0 of 3 Cooling 1: Processor 0 of 3 Cooling 2: Processor 0 of 3 Cooling 3: Processor 0 of 3 Cooling 4: LCD 6 of 15 Cooling 5: LCD 6 of 15 Now the only persistent bug is in vgaswitcheroo, which seems to be confined to the 3.7.xxx kernel series. I have updated my openSUSE 12.2 Tumbleweed install to 3.8 Kernel Desktop and found that vgaswitcheroo now successfully switches off my discrete AMD GPU. If switcheroo was working correctly i would expect the above command to provide a battery time estimate of > 5 hours. I'm not suggesting this is a problem that needs to be dealt with, this will be resolved on the next Kernel update. A few other comments: 1. I noticed that the boot time of the KDE Live image was fast! 2. I like the artwork, although have to get used to dark theme. 3. The KDE live image has a great selection of applications, including Libreoffice and Digikam. I won't need to download the full DVD now. I was replying to the word "persistent", which implies not new.

Thanks for hijacking my thread.... Whilst it might not have been apparent for you Felix, I was referring to persistent bugs on my machine. Obviously there are unresolved bugs that don't affect me, but hey doesn't every distro have persistent bugs - e.g. Windows 8?

I have no idea what you are on about. The point of my email was to say i'd tested the latest release and was really happy with it. This is my opinion, if you have a different opinion, then fine. But don't state it as cold fact. Furthermore given the current debate around Ubuntu (really don't want to open that can of worms here) it's very heartening for me to see that 12.3 will be a great release and might provide a pole of attraction for newer Linux users. No, Felix did not hijack your thread - he didn't start a totally new topic which is what 'hijacking' means.
Whilst it might not have been apparent for you Felix, I was referring to persistent bugs on my machine.
But you see, you wrote: "Now the only persistent bug is in vgaswitcheroo, which seems to be confined to the 3.7.xxx kernel series." There is nothing to indicate that you were referring to what the situation is on your machine - you simply made the broad statement. To which Felix was responding. Nothing more, nothing less.
Obviously there are unresolved bugs that don't affect me, but hey doesn't every distro have persistent bugs - e.g. Windows 8?
Windows 8? It was released less than 4 months ago. You use Windows 8 and have noticed persistent bugs in it? Can you tell us what these persistent bugs are, please. Please, No! Trent was talking about installation on his machine and his bug reports, and that is actually how one should understand any comments here even when they don't contain explicit limitation as in: "Just booted up RC2 to find that my bug in Beta and RC1 ... has been squashed." Bug that I have on my machine is not universal unless confirmed by other users. So, slapping some random bugs from bugzilla that have only one common thing with those mentioned in discussion, ie. persistence, was a (kind of) hijack. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
