http://en.openSUSE.org/openSUSE:Build_Service_Collaboration might be a good starting point. Cheers, Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team + SUSE Labs SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

Everything related to opensuse development and security updates revolves around the opensuse build service (obs). So getting familiar with it is an important first step. There is a psuedo tutorial at: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Build_Service_Tutorial I'd pick a simple package on obs, branch it to your home project, check it out to your local pc, make a trivial change, build it locally, then submit your change back to your branch of the project and watch it build on the build farm. Once you have the basics down you can decide it you want to work on bugs or bringing in new packages. If you need ideas, there are a lot of packages that used to be in "contrib" that need someone to take them over. They need to be moved to a devel project and then submitted to factory for inclusion for the full distro.
