[opensuse-factory] WiFi lost aftet TW upgrade

Hello, I upgraded (after almost a month) two different computers with TW (KDE). Both of them were/are since then unable to connect to WiFi. Connection to any encrypted WiFi network was refused with message "No credentials provided". Going to management of network connections showed that all networks have empty credentials fields. It looks like all WiFi passwords were lost. I don't know where and which format TW/KDE stores this data and if it is recoverable. It'd be nice, but not critical. On one computer, I removed one network from the list of saved networks, but re-connecting to it using usual way via NetworkManager applet didn't work. The WiFi was back in the list with missing credentials. I entered the password in the list of networks, restarted and it worked. On second computer, I'm still struggling. Regardless what I do (I re-enter password via applet or the list of networks), I'm unable to connect, the WiFi is in the list with missing credentials. I'm upgrading my installations without automatic installation of recommended packages. Any idea what could go wrong? Remember that on TW you must use "zypper dup" for all updates. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from openSUSE 15.0 (Legolas)) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Of course, I use dup. Not installing recommended packages is unrealted to use of up/dup. -- Vojtěch Zeisek http://trapa.cz/cs -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I had that once too. I've found that earlier NetworkManager had crashed. It was automatically restarted, but seemed like it wasn't able to connect to wallet anymore. At least until I logged out an in again. https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1107197 You can check with "sudo coredumpctl list" if you have any NetworkManager core dumped. -- Adam Mizerski

It seems to be that case. The data (passwords) are in KWallet. It happens repeatedly. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. After starting the computer, I have random chance I'll be connected. I wonder if there is any fix or workaround. -- Vojtěch Zeisek Komunita openSUSE GNU/Linuxu Community of the openSUSE GNU/Linux https://www.opensuse.org/ https://trapa.cz/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I have experienced problems, too with WiFi recently. Mainly it takes a long time for it to connect. Says it fails to provide secrets and after that connects. Sometimes after resume it does not connect at all even though I manually try to click on the network to connect. Only a reboot helps. These issues have been present for around 1-2 weeks I would say. Also affects my Leap 15 installation on another PC. Both PCs use Intel WiFi (Broadwell and Kaby Lake generation). On 9/9/18, Vojtěch Zeisek <vojtech.zeisek@opensuse.org> wrote:

Hi, I have the same problem with a fresh TW/KDE install from the last snapshot. The logs of dmesg are giving me constant authentication tries and timeouts. Once I got a crashdump regarding the Intel firmware. The issue persists even on an unencrypted public WiFi. If any full logs are needed I can send them. Regards, vinz. Am 8.
