[opensuse-factory] OpenSUSE Factory updates
I know I saw a post which explained that the Factory updates would be less frequent now that there are builds going on for RC1 (or something along that line). I'm new to Factory so I don't know what the previous frequency was but I'm only seeing new packages for Factory about once a week. Is this the expected frequency? I'm not complaining; I just thought that I'd be able to do a significant amount of testing leading up to the release date but at this frequency my testing is pretty much irrelevant. There would only be 2 more Factory "releases" before the official launch so I don't feel that I'm contributing in any significant way to the testing effort. I have a few bug tickets and at least one that has a posted solution: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=434598 but I have no clue how to test it as there are no updates for Factory at this time. If I'm reading the bug report correctly, the only way to test would be to have the source for that package, apply the patch and recompile? If that's the way it is then that's OK but I would suggest however that having nightly builds of these things available would result in a larger testing audience. I'm hoping someone can clue me in on how to be a more effective tester. No, this is not the usual frequency, but Factory is disabled completely for the moment. And 11.1 is disconnected from Factory anyway, so it has different bugs already :) Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

so, to clarify, Factory now builds the next openSUSE as in 11.2? if you were using Factory to track 11.1 progress, you should not use Factory any more... openSUSE 11.1 builds are not available until they shows up on http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1/repo/oss/

Yes and no. Factory does not build anything atm, but the sources contain already newer packages than 11.1.
openSUSE 11.1 builds are not available until they shows up on http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1/repo/oss/
Correct. Please note that the above URL is currently 11.1-RC1 repos and these will disappear once I upload final to the mirrors. So while these files are synced to the mirrors, we will have no 11.1 repo at all online. You have something like eight months till that factory is released :-) To clarify, what you are seeing as factory now is the future 11.2. The "old" factory is the RC1 for 11.1, and has a different repo from factory - and AFAIK, the RC sees very little, if any, public updates. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Ok, thanks to all who replied. It's making more sense now. What I'm still not understanding is where are the updated packages that will become 11.1 RC2? You say no public updates, does that literally mean there is no way to confirm a bug has been fixed until the next RC comes out? -- John Lange www.johnlange.ca -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
