[opensuse-factory] Why Leap does not have libopensync?
Factory/Thumbleweed has it. Leap does not. What should I do with the packages that need it? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

opensync maintainer do not want have any opensync related packages add to Leap[1] as opensync upstream project is unmaintained several years now. What's the reason they are in Factory then? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Nobody bothered to include it. Not sure if the maintainer actively ignored it, or if it was not tried. That said, if people need it, we can add it via a maintenance update. looks like maintainer slowly clean-up libopensync related packages
from Factory/Tumbleweed ..
libopensync is last package , all plugins were removed
and opensync upstream is dead and home page is inaccessible.
So , adding libopensync to Leap as Maintenance update isn't good idea..
bye,
Ondrej

As far as I can see, 1) no one submit delete request against libopensync, but the rest of libopensync related packages were deleted. 2) libopensync actually can not safety dropped from Factory as kdepim3 is build require with it, and kitchensync is rely on it as well, perhaps that is the reason why no one trying to drop it from Factory. On the other hand, Leap does not have KDE3, and even Leap doesn't have any package requires libopensync, so no libopensync in Leap should not sounds strange. That looks like a loop, as it appears that KDE3 is not in Leap because there are missing packages :-) -- Cheers/Saludos Carlos E. R. On can build kdepim3 with reduced functionality without this library. But I was just wonderingwhat target should I consider more important, Leap or Factory? Also the difference of Leap from Factory was totally surprising to me. Prevuously if packages were building/working in Factory they would work in openSUSE release. But this time all looked will till the very end when it turned out that in Leap one even cannot install kdebase3 on Leap because it was using udisks-glue for automounting and that was absent from Leap but still in place in Factory. This problem is of course avoidable (I made the dependency soft, without udisks-glue the media will mount upon clicking the disk's icon) but it was unexpected. I wonder how one can now track compatibility of packages with the upcoming release if they are so different from Factory? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It was well advertised on this list that not all Factory packages would be ported to leap and that in many cases it may be up to maintainer whether the package goes in or not. On several occasions there was also a list posted of packages in 13.2 that wern't currently in leap. For example I noticed frozen bubble wasn't in leap and by the time I got to adding it 3 other people had already submitted requests.

For enlightenment I did this by adding 42.1 as a build target in the development repo which gave a clear picture of missing deps and what was or wasn't building.

You used to submit the package from openSUSE:Factory into openSUSE:Leap:42.1, but submissions were closed at the start of October to give time for a legal review. Whether anyone would allow new packages now i'm unsure but someone else can probably answer. You may need to wait for 42.2 given its now well past all deadlines etc, but then again i'm just a maintainer and not really involved in the process. That wiki page is probably out of date as of the 1st of October, until the 42.2 repo's are branched, it probably should have something mentioning that the window for new packages is closed. To be honest, it has been discussed at length on various mailing lists over the past months, including this one.
Prevuously if packages were building/working in Factory they would work in openSUSE release.
But Leap is not, and was not meant to be, a fixed TW snapshot. Again this was discussed here.

It is the maintainers' "responsibility" to ensure that things are put in and working. At the minimum, given everyone has his / her time constraints, IMO it would be nice if you maintain something to at least keep track of the schedules and what not. It looks like no one from the KDE3 maintainers camp noticed this, and that's why these problems emerged now. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: A29D259B -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
