[opensuse-factory] Apper disaster - Can´t get my beloved 11.4 KpackageKit back
Howdy all, I updated to 12.1 today and now I have troubles with Adobe flash player and apper. I tried to install flash player, so I downloaded the rpm and tried to install it with apper, which failed (apper crashes, the KDE crash dialog appears.) I also tried to get my old 11.4 KPackageKit back, but I haven´t find a package for that (and even if, I guess Apper won´t install it anyway.) So, does anybody else got the problem? Or even better: Does anyone else has a workaround or a fix for that? Would to be nice to get a reply soon! kind regards & thanks in advance, --kdl -- -o) Kim Leyendecker, openSUSE Community Member /\\ GPG Key: 664265369547B825 | leyendecker@opensuse.org _\_v http://www.opensuse.org - Linux for open minds -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I just tried that file associations work around. It's taking several minutes to update. I wonder why so long? BTW, w.r.t. some other comments there, I do have apper and packagekit installed and it still doesn't work. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I imagine the rpm data base is updating?

Not sure, alas I use Gnome and zypper most of the time... -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64) Kernel 2.6.37.6-0.9-desktop up 2 days 1:56, 5 users, load average: 0.03, 0.10, 0.13 GPU GeForce 8600 GTS Silent - Driver Version: 285.05.09 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It's been going for about an hour now and still isn't finished. Is that normal? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It's still "updating" after more than 4 hours. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

As far as I understand, apper was a last minute try to replace a buggy packagekit, but not mature enough. better use zypper or yast... jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It's still updating, very slowly, about an hour after it started. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I've also noticed Apper doesn't work. I guess it's a new "feature", but I can install packages by right clicking and selecting Open with > Install/Remove Software. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Funny, I noticed a bunch of PackageKit updates so I went and reinstalled Apper. Now it is actually working like it should... and unlike before where it was painfully slow it is now quick enough in all ways to becomfortably usable. I just hope it keeps working... briefly in 11.4 KPackageKit was working then stopped working again. -- Roger Luedecke openSUSE Ambassador Ind. Well, I use James´s workaround for now and hope that Apper will be better with the next update or the next release. thanks for your help! -- -o) Kim Leyendecker, openSUSE Community Member /\\ GPG Key: 664265369547B825 | leyendecker@opensuse.org _\_v http://www.opensuse.org - Linux for open minds -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

First of all I don't get why you download the rpm from Adobe instead of installing the SUSE package from the non-oss repo with yast or zypper. Secondly, when packagekit stuff fails (and it _will_ fail), use zypper, whether for local rpms and/or for updating/patching. Anyway, YaST should be associated with clicking local rpms since it works. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
