If you're installing from the KDE4.8 Upstream repo, you're going to get the default KDM... at least that's how it is for now. I don't know if it'll change - unlikely is my guess since it's the upstream KDE. AFAIK you fixed this a few days ago already. On 12.1 I can install the openSUSE kdm and workspace branding.

It might have taken some time for the fix to appear in the repos because KDE repos hardly finish building before some change restarts the process.
