[opensuse-factory] recent 13.1/repo/oss update broke my system heavily
Hi, my zypper config is pointing to 13.1/repo/oss and this morning I got a full update (basically all packages were upgraded) most likely just because of the branch from Factory to 13.1. But it wasn't just rebuilds apparently since my system does not enter X anymore and hardly allow to get to the console. (systemd-login throws a lot of errors). I also needed to disable NetworkManager since it does not do its thing anymore. I cannot really pinpoint to the thing which broke all that. Most of the "red messages" in the journal are about systemd-logind "failed to enable subscription: Activation of org.freedesktop.org.systemd1 timed out" and similar messages from different services that some identifiers looking like DBus things are timing out. Anyone an idea what to revert to get a working 13.1 beta again (and from where to take the corresponding packages)? The 13.1 beta repo is gone - everyone cried mordor that there is no 13.1 repo, so I published it. So if you want to keep beta1, don't zypper dup. Request 200593 is the most likely culript if you ask me. Try an old version of dbus-1 Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Stephan, what exactly does this mean? If 13.1 Beta1 is now a floating target, testing and bugreporting has become seriously difficult, if possible at all. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (12.8°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
System is pretty unusable here too. Does not launch KDE Login at crtl-alt-F1 console is very slow. Does not respond to shutdown command. Powered off by pulling power cord. Booted and now trying to install mc so I can look at the logs and see what the error messages are. Yast is running slow as an old dog. Steven -- ____________ Apply appropriate technology. I don't agree. I was one of the people who asked for updates on the way forward from beta 1. And "Beta1" is not a floating target since it still is beta1. What is updated is the 13.1 repository. If you think, testing becomes difficult then don't update. For me testing 13.1 beta 1 was the big issue since just too much stuff was broken and reportedly already fixed in various devel projects. Avoiding updates is easier than getting them in the first place. So I very much welcome the floating updates in the 13.1 repo. The DBus incident is unfortunate though but I'm back on the dbus packages from beta 1 and system is usable again. Well it's a beta so it can be broken and that is expected actually at least for me. I've taken the machine out of line for right now. I am too much a newbie to testing to try and repair the system from the command line and to properly report bugs with my limited time. I'll have to resume testing from farther along in the development process. Steven -- ____________ Apply appropriate technology. Use what works without prejudice. Okay, maybe I misunderstood. Yes, looks like it because I am running the newer systemd with the oldish dbus .. last systemd change I have: * lun sep 23 2013 arvidjaar@gmail.com - Fix-timeout-when-stopping-Type-notify-service.patch Make sure MAINPID is watched when it becomes known (bnc#841544) last dbus: * sáb sep 07 2013 hrvoje.senjan@gmail.com - Added 0001-_dbus_babysitter_unref-avoid-infinite-loop-if-waitpi.patch from upstream for resolving fdo#68945, bnc#782909 This combination works just fine. -- "If debugging is the process of removing bugs, then programming must be the process of putting them in." - Edsger Dijkstra -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, regression is with the last dbus sr, warned about this here: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=802525#c74

huh..Seems we really need kdbus for systemd :-) but it has not been merged into the kernel yet.

I don't think you realize what kdbus is going to do, you will still end up with a libdbus in userspace, that could cause issues like this. sorry, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
