[opensuse-factory] Thinkpad X60 and iwl3945-ucode
I learned the hard way that we no longer support the wireless hardware coming with Thinkpad X60. Yast happily still reports that iwl3945-ucode is required if you want to configure the chip. Unfortunately, it does not tell the user where he can find the driver software :-( I guess we must promote Build Service > Projects > driver:wireless > iwl3945-ucode more prominently (assuming that that's the location from where the user is considered to download those drivers). The iwl3945 ucode seems to be in the 'kernel-firmware' package as it should be on my M7. If your suggested workflow were indeed to be required to get one of the most widely used chipset working, then we might as well shut down. At least it would set a new benchmark for epic fail. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I installed the Gnome desktop (and later the KDE4 pattern), but kernel-firmware were not installed by default.

Later on, NetworkManager displayed "device not ready" and nothing more. Then, I switch to the traditional networking method and tried to configure the wireless hardware. YaST tried to download iwl3945-ucode, but failed. Maybe, kernel-firmware does not provide iwl3945-ucode properly. Ok, so that's a bug. Could you report it in bugzilla, please? Ok, my M7 is a dup from M6 kde livecd install, so maybe that's why 'kernel- firmware' is installed for me. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

The live cd has it on by default, but the DVD picks it by the hardware. So I guess the supplements in the firmware package are broken. Gruss, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
