[opensuse-factory] RC1 USB GSM modem Huawei went broken
System is on an EeePC 900, I had Milestone 8 running just fine. I upgraded with zypper dup from Milestone 8 to Rc1. So far I had been using this USB GSM modem with wvdial quite swimmingly. (I never got it to work with Network Manager although it works fine in 11.0.) Now, when it is connected it freezes everything totally and this is /var/log/messages: Oct 16 13:13:29 linux su: (to root) linux on /dev/pts/2 Oct 16 13:14:26 linux kernel: [ 260.296061] usb 3-2: new I thought I'll try a fresh install since this one has been upgraded several times and it's been perhaps borked somehow during my experiments. I attached a USB CD drive and booted from NET install CD. The installation stops to USB drivers somewhere in "lookin.for update something" Can't go on. I put the Live KDE image on a USB stick and booted from it. It boots but when I attach the Huawei thingy the above messages is what I get. The worst is that I had Milestone 8 working nicely but I've somehow lost it's install image, I can't go back. Can the previous netinstall image still be obtained from somewhere? This is not a ship-stopper? Are all models of huawei modems affected or just a specific model? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I wonder what the solution would be to get also the networkmanager to handle this modem? It's working fine in EeePC 900 in 11.0. I skipped 11.1 (and so forgot about it then) but I had it for a short while and noticed then already that nm didn't handle the thing. I'm cool with wvdial and network manager takes care of wired and wireless. Just wondering... -- Vahis -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

If it's a bug (assuming that modem support wasn't dropped from NM or something like that), given you already have a testbed, it would be great if you could fill a bug report before GM... Regards,
It seems like one. I've done some googling and all I can find is questions about it, no answers. How's this for a bug report: My UMTS modem won't work. I know next to nothing about modems or network managers except that the one in 11.0 works, the one in 11.2 doesn't, in my case. What needs to be probed? What shall I command to probe things? What logs are needed? All I have is /var/log/messages A questionaire for this would be appreciated :) -- Vahis -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Well. It would be useful to know if you use the KDE or the GNOME applet, and a somewhat detailed error description wouldn't hurt either and /var/log/NetworkManager. Now, when it is connected it freezes everything totally <snip previous post> A bit more: As I said the Live USB stick boots but Huawei USB modem freezes it when attached. If I boot from the Live USB stick and choose installing the installation starts normally, if the Huawei thingy is not attached.
If I have Huawei attached and choose installing I get those same kind of messages for like about a minute and then the mouse and touch pad are totally frozen. -- Vahis -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
