[opensuse-factory] ipw2200 and kernel 3
Hi, this is a quite old FSC Notebook with an Intel Wireless 2200. Fresh factory installation over LAN with the net-iso, source changed to http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss/ ended in good shape, but wireless does not work. That's good so far, because wireless couldn't be enabled: dmesg | grep ipw2000: [ 11.944259] ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.2.2kdmprq [ 11.944263] ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation [ 11.944398] ipw2200 0000:02:0d.0: PCI INT A -> Link[LNKA] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11 [ 11.944422] ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection [ 12.010939] ipw2200: ipw2200-bss.fw request_firmware failed: Reason -2 [ 12.010957] ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: -2 [ 12.010963] ipw2200: failed to register network device [ 12.011006] ipw2200 0000:02:0d.0: PCI INT A disabled [ 12.011045] ipw2200: probe of 0000:02:0d.0 failed with error -5 Quite normal, package ipw-firmware isn't installed by default. To make it short: installing ipw-firmware leads to a blocking re-modprobing of ipw2200 and further booting after hard reset ends with a nondisruptibale udev- settings at boot. Removing ipw-firmware in a rescue-system resolves the problem, but then there's no wireless. Fresh installation with 11.4 works like expected. FYI, I raised bug #715860 on 2011-09-03 14:59 CEST Summary: No wifi post fresh install of 12.1 Milestone 5 My comments at that time were ... The ipw-firmware-9.8.3.noarch rpm should have been automatically installed during the network card detection and configuration part of the installation.
