[opensuse-factory] Feedback
Hello everyone, Feedback regarding openSUSE 11.1 RC 1: I would like to be able to right click on a tar.gz/tar.bz2/zip/etc file and unzip wherever it is located. I could do that on previous openSUSE releases. Today I have upgraded my openSUSE 11.1 RC 1 system to the latest kernel update and my default grub entry was changed to floppy. This shouldn't have happened. The KDE updater applet is unable to install updates. It always exits with "An error occurred." I have to use YaST or zypper to keep my system up- to-date. Speaking of YaST, if you launch YaST and switch to repositories, it takes a while to load the list of repositories, which btw, not all of them are shown since this movable separator is way too high. Other than that, it's looking good. :) Greetings, Javier -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

That might be related to the strace test update that is in the channel.

Thanks for your reply, Andreas :) Regarding this, I have found a relevant bug http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=156476 It seems that ark/kde4 lacks the --extract and --extract-to arguments. One possible solution would be having both kde3/ark (just for the extract and extract here menus) and kde4/ark for the rest. It is probably to late to fix this I guess. I would also like to be asked if I want to launch Kaffeine or Amarok when I insert a DVD video or an audio CD.

OK. Bug reported. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=457057 Another thing related to this kernel update is that my hd transfer speeds are very low... if I copy one file from/to the same partition, I get between 6 and 7 MiB/s :(

While this is still not implemented in KDE4, there is a nice add-on in packman repository called 'kde4-ExtractAndCompress' who fill this gap. Regards, Luiz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

have they ever been there? you should use unrar, unarj to get ark to decompress.. rar, unace are available from packman. btw, this servicemenu and functionality is at least available in kde4.2b1.

Luiz, Why isn't it in KDE4? Will the packman version cause dependency problems when users go to update their system with zypper up -t package like all of the xine-lib / lib-xine issues in 10.3 and 11.0? Substituting 3rd party packages for what was core-functionality seems like a reckless direction to take. -- David C.
