[opensuse-factory] X11:XOrg / X.org 1.12.1

Hi List-Mates, As you for sure heard and read by now, we prepared X.org 1.12.1 packages in X11:XOrg, where some short stabilization time is running and submission to Factory is being prepared. Due to the heavy splitting work, this is now a lot of small 'new' packages entering Factory, which will probably take a while. Anyway: if you feel the urge to test X 1.12.1 before it enters Factory, and you feel like you'd want to report errors on those packages before the big masses will see them in one of the upcoming snapshot, GREAT! Get X11:XOrg enabled. One heads up already at this point though: If you have a synaptics touch pad: the current driver version in X11:XOrg does not like you to touch your pad: X will just reset. A Fix is pending review and should land there soon. That makes one down... probably many more to go (Please report bugs in bugzilla.. feel free to CC me on them, if you work with X 1.12.1 packages; I won't be able to fix them all, as I am in no way accustomed to X.Org, but having worked a good part on those packages, I still feel somewhat responsible now.. shame :P ) Let the tests begin... now! I am trying to resolve the build issue with the latest Mesa in X11:XOrg. I used upstream patches to make it work with the latest llvm, but somehow it is now failing as that llvm-config --libs returns non-existing libraries. This causes errors during the link-phase. I will try to contact cartman to see how we can resolve this. Strangely enough when I build the Mesa package directly against Factory/snapshot, then it builds. But for the target X11:XOrg, I get the mentioned links errors. Raymond, Thank you for picking that topic up! I assume that Factory/Snapshot is not yet switched to either gcc 4.7 or the new llvm, thus building against it still works. Or some other dependency. Once we have Mesa building again, there are some more ideas on how to extend it further :) (llvmpipe, allowing gnome-shell to run without hardware accel comes to mind, and svga gallium driver, which, as per my understanding, offers the needed backend for xf86-video-vmware to support 3D capability in a VMware VM as well...) It seems that I am not the only one who picked it up. llvm has a strange status at this moment. It compiles in Factory, but not in it's devel project nor in any other project. I even aggregated llvm from factory into my branch, but this didn't resolved the issue.
Are we sure that these options are off in the current package ? Because the llvm errors are when building llvmpipe. The svga gallium driver is indeed not build yet. There's already a sr to X11:XOrg to build the svga gallium driver and what is needed for xf86-video-vmware to support 3D. That's good news! Once we have that in, we can enable xatracker support in the driver too... I love when a plan works out :P So now up to you, Raymond and Ismael to fix llvmpipe and building of Mesa (likely the xa statetracker SR will need to be rebased though) Dominique -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
