slowroll will not install correctly from either network iso or DVD image

Slowroll will update to the 6.4.24 kernel and get deleted because the install image put 6.5.3 kernel and the reboot deletes the 6.4.24.
Can someone make a valid slowroll install iso and not install tumbleweed but a true slowroll?
I would take a slowroll virtualbox vm that works. I have no idea how to set virtualbox to work with slowroll - it seems to get recreated with every Tumbleweed kernel but seems to be backward compatible.

Hi Larry, I just followed the process in Bernard's below and it worked fine. I have a VM running slowroll now. Hi Larry, I was just getting ready to reply to you saying the same thing Wayne wrote. I believe the "key" point is that you MUST disable the network connection when doing the initial installation from the DVD, otherwise, it is pointed to the TW repos and therefore during the update it would update to the latest TW version. Then when you changed the repos to SlowRow, it would be pointing to a version which is older than the version you updated to during the installation. The DVD iso is not installing the 6.5.3 kernel, it is getting updated because during the initial install you have the online repos enabled and it updates you to the kernel that is in those online TW repos. That's why you have to turn the network off to do the initial install. By turning off the network in the VM, doing the initial install ( which now cannot be upgraded to the latest TW because there is no network ), rebooting, changing the repos as detailed below, enabling the network and finally doing the zypper dup ( which will now come from the SlowRoll repos ) everything works. Hope that helps! Joe On 9/19/23 11:07, Wayne Patton via openSUSE Factory wrote:

Hi Larry, One thing I forgot to mention to you in my earlier message was that I created my VM using VMWare Player 17.0.2 and not Virtualbox but that shouldn't affect the outcome. I believe ( but could be wrong ) that the cdn download locations are setup to get you to a download server that is closer to where you are. The fact that you are getting those timeouts seems to indicate there is some sort of network issue in your path to those servers. Not sure where you are located but I am in the US in Maryland so assuming I am correct about the CDN servers and you are not near me, it could be that the servers you are using are where the problem is. Hi Larry, Just found something odd with the CDN servers.... Using FireFox, if I go to http://cdn.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/ALP:/ I only see Parent Directory Products:/ If I change the URL in Firefox to http://cdn.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/ALP:/Experimental:/ It WORKS and shows Linarite:/ Slowroll/ Slowroll:/ So the question is why isn't "Experimental:/" showing up when I go to http://cdn.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/ALP:/ If I do the same thing but go to http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/ALP:/ Then it DOES show the "Experimental:/" folder. I would take a slowroll virtualbox vm that works. I have no idea how to set virtualbox to work with slowroll - it seems to get recreated with every Tumbleweed kernel but seems to be backward compatible.
I made some cloud/VM images based on the Leap ones. They don't have a root password set, so if you run them outside of a cloud, you need to set a password with wget https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/ALP:/Experimental:/Slow... sudo modprobe nbd sudo qemu-nbd --connect=/dev/nbd0 openSUSE-Slowroll.x86_64-1.0.0-NoCloud-Build4.1.qcow2 #fdisk -l /dev/nbd0 sudo mount /dev/nbd0p3 /mnt sudo chroot /mnt/ passwd exit sudo umount /mnt/ sudo qemu-nbd --disconnect /dev/nbd0 # and finally run it with qemu-kvm -m 1000 -hda openSUSE-Slowroll.x86_64-1.0.0-NoCloud-Build4.1.qcow2 There is also a serial console view with boot logs and copy+paste-ability. If you want to run it with VirtualBox, you need to do qemu-img convert -O vdi IN.qcow2 OUT.vdi Ciao Bernhard M.
