[opensuse-factory] Why did openSUSE choose the installer to have a flat gui?
Hello List Mates, With all of the great software available to design a beautiful gui... Why oh why did they choose the flat gui? A '90s design except for the Yast Partitioner? Ugh! I remember asking when the real gui was going to be available. Now I know. Is this the future? Cheers! Roman -------------------------------------------- openSUSE -- Get it! Discover it! You seem to be confused. openSUSE is us not them. You're free to change openSUSE in whatever you want. Just plain, unconstructive bashing is pretty much disallowed. Thank you in advance. Sometimes what comes out in text isn't the same as talking in person. And bashing was never my intention. Perhaps I should have rephrased it differently. This is what happens when you run out of coffee. :-) I have been using openSUSE since 2004. I'm a regular contributor to Bugzilla and the openSUSE forums since 2008. That being said, I'm trying to understand why the decision was made to have a flat look versus having a look that had more rounded edges. Since I'm not a developer, I'm trying to understand if this is the new design style for the next versions. I've tested Plasma 5 and the KDE devs have also gone with a flat look. Cheers! Might that have a reason behind ? may it be because software evolves to look according to what an average consumer wants/expects ? IN the case of the installer.. I only care about two things. a) It has an average look, must offer advantages over an ncurses interface. b) It is fully functional, it does everything it says it work and does it correctly. Everything else is an implementation detail, as far as I am concerned, after all I will only use the installer once or twice a year. -- Cristian "I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody." -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Shame on you. Factory's installer needs experienced programmers testing too, not just mere mortal testers. :-p -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Hi Roman, I am not designer so I am not sure what you mean with flat GUI. YaST in general for qt use qt style sheet[1] which is styled by opensuse design team[2]. So I think you can play with it and propose changes in opensuse artwork mailing list. I hope yast is not blocker in this design issue. Thank you for pointing me to the installation qt style sheet. This is very helpful. If you look at previous versions you will notice that the buttons tabs, sliders were raised and had more definition. However, now I'm spending time testing the installer so that it always installs reliably minus the Yast errors. Not forgetting ncurses. Cheers!
