[opensuse-factory] systemd / Leap / Kernel:stable / Luks fails after upgrade of systemd
Hi all, after updating my Leap 42.2 yesterday from systemd-228-25.3.1 to systemd-228-25.6.1 my boot hangs at the point where it normally would ask my Luks password. I'm running Leap 42.2 with Kernel:stable on an nvme SSD with an encrypted LVM, i.e. only /boot/efi in uncrypted. (I need Kernel:stable since in order to get HDMI working on my new XPS 15 9560 I need at least something like a 4.9 kernel). The issue reminds me of the thread starting https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2017-06/msg00643.html, except that none of the tricks there help, such as switching to (any of the) other VTs. I've removed plymouth completely now, and I can boot fine with the older 25.3.1 (also when downgrading back to it, or even when manually replacing all the systemd files in my initrd), while with 25.6.1 I do not get a password prompt. After looking at the diff between the two, I presume it has something to do with the new NVMe rules in rules/60-persistent-storage.rules, but before digging deeper, has anyone seen this same problem or perhaps have a simple workaround/fix? This looks similar to a bug I endured just last week:
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1047598
The solution is in my last post (i.e., edit /etc/crypttab).
Does that maybe help you?
Best regards,
Carmen

Hi Carmen,
thank! It looks indeed very similar, except that my /etc/crypttab
already seems to contain the right entry already?
cr_nvme-LONGSTRING-part2 /dev/disk/by-id/nvme-LONGSTRING-part2
none none
where LONGSTRING is some long hex string.
I will try it out further later (can't currently reboot).
Best wishes,
Mischa

Hi,
just found bug https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1048679
That looks like your bug, but slightly different and really like mine.
I'll try it out but am quite confident it will fix my issue.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
Best wishes,
Mischa
