This one is covered, although none of developers came to help.

I answered this one. Want to check facts and collect info before it lands in bugzilla.
Or do we tell them to remove apper & friends? Nobody has come to the rescue yet...
No, there is better method, update all to openSUSE 12.2 :) (Then fix nouveau and clock and ... ) By the time all is working, who will remember that problem was updater :P -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I watched the Linux Action Show review of openSUSE 12.2 yesterday. Their main pain point was "package management" issues (all packagekit related of course) - the usual suspects: 1) packagekit frontends failing to actually install updates (without any useful error message) and 2) packagekit blocking YaST/zypper and refusing to go away when told. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Of what use is a bug triage if there is nobody working on the back-end? Gary fixed the PK zypp backend bugs I triaged-out-of-Apper for 12.2, and I'm the closest to being the person responsible in openSUSE for KDE Apper PK bugs. The upstream developer is only interested in PackageKit 0.8 support for Apper now, so it's my problem. Whether I do get work time for directly fixing this or have to talk someone else into it is another question. OK, so why are we using PackageKit 0.7, then?
Because last time I checked there wasn't a zypp backend compatible with the new 0.8 API. Even less optimized for it. Michael Andres is working on it. A few soundbites from the PackageKit list around the 0.8 release in June when 12.2 was supposedly almost frozen: "I've broken all your nice backend code..." "We broke backend API and libpackagekit-glib and libpackagekit-qt ABI. Again. This should hopefully be the last soname bump in the 0.8.x series." So unless you want openSUSE to inhabit some Gothic alternate reality where Coolo wears Joker makeup to randomly check in horrorshow code direct from the authors' editors, you'll agree we didn't want this one ;). I wonder who's porting packagekit-zypp to PK 0.8 though? Probably the Penguin. If you don't go there, we will tell them again not to use any of packagekit friends. :-P So far, only Rajko has tried, bless him. :-) The purpose of this thread is not to argue here again about apper and friends. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
