[opensuse-factory] Yast2 lan and ProductFeatures

Hi group, a few weeks ago I made a fresh install of MS5. Wired LAN worked out of the box, but I could not configure WLAN since the yast module just cannot be started (any other module is ok). It (/var/log/YaST2/y2log) turned out that /etc/Yast2/ProductFeatures was missing from day one (day of install) and my wild guess is that this could be the cause. This file is not part of any rpm, thus it gets created. But how? There is the very old related (fixed) Bug 212506, but it says nothing about where the ProductFeatures file comes from. How may I trigger its recreation? Regards Stefan -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Hi, I updated from MS6 to MS7 and the yast lan module now works while y2log still showing the complaint about missing /etc/Yast2/ProductFeatures. Configuring WLAN is now possible but not without hassles: - SuSEConfig hangs about one minute on the firewall settings step so one gets the impression it will not finish at all (this step completes three times faster on subsequent invocations) - After activating WLAN with knetworkmanager both wired and wireless connections are active! Why does knetworkmanager activate multiple interfaces at the same time? And what problems do I have to expect due to this? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Why shouldn't it? If you have activated wireless and plugged in a cable, I expect it to do so. But you can click "disable wireless", at least in nm-applet (wich ich much more useful feature-wise than the kde networkmanager applet anyway), if your machine has no kill switch for wireless.
And what problems do I have to expect due to this?
This depends on your setup. For me it just works. -- Stefan Seyfried "Any ideas, John?" "Well, surrounding them's out." -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Hi, 'scout bin nm-applet' will give you the answer but IIRC is a package called NetworkManager-gnome or something like that Regards, Luiz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

KDE networkmanagement is not 100% functional, so If anything does not work I would always first try to check if nm-applet works. -- Stefan Seyfried "Any ideas, John?" Please file a bug and assign it to yast2-maintainers. Product features file has moved to a new location in one of the previous releases, so it's possible there's some dangling reference to it somewhere in YaST code. fB. -- \\\\\ Katarina Machalkova \\\\\\\__o YaST developer __\\\\\\\'/_ & hedgehog painter
