[opensuse-factory] Some 10.3 Bug Statistics
Since the DVD9s are being sent off for shipping, I thought I'd interest myself again by taking a look at some Bugzilla statistics again. So why not share? :-) Without further ado (and no double-checking)... There was a total of 6708 bugs reported; a massive 5308 of these were CLOSED/RESOLVED already (~80%). 258 of these were blockers, and 567 of them were critical.[0] 3138 are RESOLVED+FIXED. With 3258 bug reports (and the top three bug reporters), the non-Novell Community makes up 49% of all bug reports in openSUSE 10.3. 918 different people reported those bugs! 423 of them reported 1 bug report; 128 of them reported 2. 773 of them reported 9 or less. The bug with the most duplicates[1] is Bug 240922[2], with 18. Beta 2 had the most bugs filed against it,[3] taking 873 of the total. 100% of the votes say openSUSE 10.3 is an awesome release 8). However we'll have to wait for the number of KDE4 bugs in 11.0 ;-) 4) less kernel bugs in every release seems to be a positive trend and shows that the kernel developers are doing a good job. 5) basically the same as 4), this time for network related bugs 6) and 7) Did YaST and libzypp really have more bugs in 10.3 than in 10.2? Or was there just more testing? Also keep in mind that the bugs for <= 10.2 include some bugs found in the final release. Bug numbers for 10.3 will increase when 10.3 final is released, but I hope there aren't too many bugs we overlooked in the beta phase.

Did you file those in bugzilla? If not, please check the goldmaster first and if it still exists, open a new bugreport so that we can fix it eventually. For details see http://bugs.opensuse.org. Hi, Honestly, the "product" entry is not important for developer. If a bug has been reported for 10.1 but fixed for 10.2 (as minor bugs sometimes are), it stays assigned to "10.1". There were more libzypp applications and their testing in 10.3 than in 10.2. Additionally, a lot of YaST bugs in 10.3 report "wrong dialog design", "wrong buttons used" etc. They're, of course, minor. Every statistic can be explained in many ways. For instance, does high number of bugs mean that testers do a good job finding and reporting them or does it mean that developers are doing more mistakes :) ;)? YaST is often used as a fallback solution-maker for bugs in other components. YaST does the installation and upgrade, so it can help to convert configuration files and other /non-/standard tasks. That might be also adding some more bugs to the YaST component. And last but not least, YaST and YaST Development is more known than in the previous releases. Our mailing-lists are open to the World. Our SVN is open, we have more developers and more YaST Modules than before. I'd say both of these as well. I'd probably add that I think overall involvement has gone in GNOME for openSUSE 10.3. There are probably at least a half a dozen more big contributors external to Novell (vs 10.2) which I think indicates an overall rise. What would be interesting would be to see how bug counts compare vs counts in Fedora and Ubuntu/Kubuntu. -JP -- JP Rosevear <jpr@novell.com> Novell, Inc. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
