[opensuse-factory] Modem problem.
Yesterday, I tried to install the RC1 32-bit CD version and found that it was impossible to get a Zoom external modem to work with it. After over an hour of messing around, I gave up. I put PCLinuxOS 2007 on it and it worked out-of-the-box. Communications support has to be better. I believe "AT" was designated. 'Wanted to barf. continually. I really didn't want to put KDE 4.0 on that box, so maybe it was just as well. Why there isn't a live CD with KDE 3.5* defies logic.....mine anyway. ;) Fred -- Linux is an old Latin word meaning, "I don't have to support your Windows anymore." --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Nope......sorry to say. I don't have much to "report" about it as there weren't any usable errors. I was in the field, mad as a wet hornet, short on time and patience, and put on the box what I knew would install with no grief. What I can't understand is why, under such circumstances, you even dare to install 11.0. You should install what is fully tested and known, ie, 10.3 - -- Cheers, Carlos E. For this client, I was quite sure it would be fine.........course, I'm using 11.0 RC1 with KDE3.* on my laptop, which I've been really beating up on for about 2 weeks now. I normally don't do type of install for a client, but the requirements are very minimal there. Who would have thought that Yast was all of a sudden so ignorant that it couldn't find the right driver for a well known and SUPPORTED modem in 10.1 and 10.3 and setup to run "auto" like it should? It is frustrating indeed, but regressions do happen. You know that you touch something on the lighting of the front door and suddenly the washing machine can't use hot water. Go figure. In computers, I mean. There is always a risk with a new version. I prefer not to use them for production till a month or two have passed. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
