[opensuse-factory] No sound on KDE apps only
Hello, Out of the sudden... I didn't noticed when it happened...I lost sound playback from all KDE apps (for example Amarok). I have sound from Firefox, Chrome, mpv, vlc but for example from Amarok or Dolphin preview player. I noticed that on Multimedia settings those applications do not appear when playing although amarok built in visualization works and tracks advancing like playing. All other apps appear normally on the Applications tab and you can mute or change the volume individually. It is like KDE apps are not talking to the sound system at all but "think" that they are playing. I don't know how to debug it. Any advice? Thanks in advance. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
I executed dolphin from the Konsole and when I try to press play on the preview for an mp3 file I'm getting this: WARNING: Phonon::createPath: Cannot connect Phonon::MediaObject ( no objectName ) to Phonon::AudioOutput ( no objectName ). I suspect the same is happening with Amarok. Any ideas how to resolve it? Stratos On Fri, Dec 16, 2016 at 8:52 PM, Stratos Zolotas <strzol@gmail.com> wrote:

Make sure you have installed: phonon4qt5-backend-gstreamer (Dolphin) phonon-backend-gstreamer (Amarok, still KDE4 based) And make sure you have the relevant Gstreamer packages installed from Packman to provide support for proprietary formats - or at least gstreamer-fluendo-mp3 if your only need is mp3. Alternatively install and select the respective vlc backends for phonon and the vlc-codecs from Packman. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Make sure you have installed:
phonon4qt5-backend-gstreamer (Dolphin) phonon-backend-gstreamer (Amarok, still KDE4 based)
Both are installed.
And make sure you have the relevant Gstreamer packages installed from Packman to provide support for proprietary formats - or at least gstreamer-fluendo-mp3 if your only need is mp3.
My system is like that from the beginning (for months) and proprietary formats are reproduced without issue
Alternatively install and select the respective vlc backends for phonon and the vlc-codecs from Packman.
I'll prefer to solve the issue with the gstreamer backend and not change to vlc. I cannot figure out why it broke out of the sudden.

I opened a bug report here: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1016299 In case there is something that must be reported upstream. On Sat, Dec 17, 2016 at 5:54 PM, Stratos Zolotas <strzol@gmail.com> wrote:
