[opensuse-factory] Beta1 on VMWare requesting host clock rate change
![](https://seccdn.libravatar.org/avatar/ae70d5297a2055caeb503f9b038b35fc.jpg?s=120&d=mm&r=g)
VMWare server 1.0.3 build-44356 running on 10.2 host,10.3 beta1 as quest. Unfortunately I haven't installed any alphas this time so I don't know if this came with beta1 or before. Running Beta1 fills /var/log/messages on host with the following: kernel: /dev/vmmon[3561]: host clock rate change request 306 -> 348 The numbers change, the lines come every ten seconds. -- Vahis --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Please try "clock=pit" on the bootprompt. This fixes it for my SLES9 workstation - so it would be great to hear if this is also true for 10.3... It worked, thank you. Then, of course I wanted to know more about this and googled "clock=pit" Funny enough the first hit was this :) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918461 The whole thing is there, the reason for this and a fix, too. So M$ supports Linux quite well... If you ask them ;-) With QEMU I've seen that kernel switched to clock pit during installation or boot, but I can't recall was that with Beta1 or Alpha 7 where I started using QEMU with kqemu (kernel level accelerator). -- Regards, Rajko. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

And it works for SLES10 on ESX 3.0.x. Actually there is a knowledge base document on the vmware's site explaining it. It works here also on every Linux on VMWare. Funny enough, It's explained here: opensuse-factory@opensuse.org So MS is supporting Linux quite well after all :) Vahis --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
