[opensuse-factory] Kernel panic on boot with new Factory packages, possibly related to gcc 4.5
Hi, Just for your information, I just filed https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=582222 as I can't boot any of the kernels compiled for Factory in the last few days, possibly due to gcc 4.5 and possibly due to using reiserfs as the root partition. Note that all causes are speculation right now. I can boot the last kernel from before the gcc switch fine, so things point in that area, though. If someone else runs into that problem, it would probably be good to get more data on the bug as to how to reproduce this, I hope some knowing developer will find a way to reproduce, debug and fix it. Thanks for the report. This is probably better reported on the opensuse-kernel list, though. I happen to be on both lists (and a few others) but it's not guaranteed to always reach everyone who needs to see it. - -Jeff - -- Jeff Mahoney SUSE Labs -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.13 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAkuD/QEACgkQLPWxlyuTD7IuCgCfUghFHAfppzwKpO4ckdDlGqH/ BFwAn2QG+HH1NwUWeKPtshLIb2pI8XDf =gpJe -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

My intention was mostly to reach Factory testers here before a larger number of people stumble over those problems. I was under the impression that the bug report itself should get the attention of the people involved with the development, but Factory testers should know about such a potentially grave problem. And I think it was a great idea to do so - good thing is that AJ reports that the current master (Kernel:HEAD) boots. Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Greetings, Stephan --
Cool Since I was so doh, that I didn't keep the old kernel around, could I possible boot a netinstall cd -> add kernel:head as a repo and "repair" or upgrade myself into a bootable state? Does this sound like a viable plan? /Bjørn -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

But it seems that the kernel I tested uses gcc44 for compilation :-( Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Program Manager openSUSE, aj@{novell.com,opensuse.org} Twitter: jaegerandi | Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126
