Hm, maybe I should finally use YaST instead of "useradd" to add a new user So I don't understand what the whining in this thread is all about...
it's about if those who want auto-login have to click an extra option during install, or the other ones. highly important matter, of course...
NO! The OP asked how to turn it off on a system that came pre-installed with openSUSE. He did not ask for other peoples opinion on why it is one way or another.
Well, no actually that is not what the OP asked. The OP posted a feature request asking that the installer default should be changed, not how to change it after the fact. If the question had been how to change it, the answer would have simply been YaST --> User and Group Administration --> Expert Options --> Login Settings uncheck "Auto login". phani got it right, it's about who should have to click a (few) button(s)... Having said that, there is a problem with the autologin system, and that is that the kde config tools do not work. In my view this is the actual problem. We can say "if you don't like the default, change it" and that is fine. But then we see a big fat setting dialog in kde system settings that says "enable auto-login" that DOES NOTHING, which leads to a great deal of confusion about how one is actually supposed to change this behavior. I believe that is what needs to be fixed. - Ista

you´re writing about a problem with auto-login. Do you mean that when you´re changing your password and you´ve auto log in enabled, the log in fails? thanks -- Kim Leyendecker (kdl@k-dl.de.vu) openSUSE Ambassador, openSUSE Wiki Team DE HAVE A LOT OF FUN! http://www.opensuse.org Have you tried SUSE Studio? Need to create a Live CD, an app you want to package and distribute or create your own Linux distro. No, I mean that changing the autologin settings through KDE systemsettings has no effect. You have to change them in YaST. Which is fine, except that it is very confusing to have a whole settings module that does nothing. So I go to the login setting module in KDE systemsettings, and I uncheck "Enable Auto-Login". Restart, and I'm still automatically logged in! Now I think my system is broken. The answer of course is that I need to set it in YaST. But how am I supposed to know this? I guess I'm supposed to find this out by reading the bug report https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=267903 open since 2007, but somehow that doesn't strike me as a very good solution. Best, Ista
thanks

but it seems that this problem is very well understood, why is it not fixed yet, when there are so many similar bugreports, I don't know!! jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
