[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed Project is almost empty (only 26 packages being built)
Good Afternoon. I have been trying to do a distribution update for Tumbleweed and most of the packages seem to be missing. My system want's to downgrade about 100 packages including the kernel. I am not sure if this is something to do with my configuration or if there are currently only 26 packages being built for Tumbleweed (https://build.opensuse.org/project/packages?project=openSUSE%3ATumbleweed) Is there something wrong with the build/build service or am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks. The post didn't come up in google when I was searching and I was not a list member at the time. I was really confused because on release day for 12.1 I had done a clean 12.1 install and then followed the instructions here (http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Change_from_12.1_to_Tumbleweed). I ran a dup and tons of packages upgraded from the Tumbleweed repo. I ran periodic dups with no problems and then all of a sudden all the mirrors were empty and my system wanted to downgrade a ton of packages. That seemed a little counter-intuitive so I started looking for a problem and posted to the list. After reading the forum post I am going to run a dup to downgrade everything back to the 12.1 Tumbleweed versions and wait like everyone else. Tom On Tue 13 Dec 2011 03:13:11 PM EST, Greg KH wrote:

Wait for what? Tumbleweed is useful today. I think people don't remember what it looked like at the beginning of 11.4. It takes a while to add packages as they need to get stable and the like from what is currently in the 12.1 repos. thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

OK, when *will* Tumbleweed start to be "useable" again? Right now I'm running 12.1 but with the newer Xorg (Mesa 7.11.1 instead of 7.11), KDE (4.7.4 instead of 4.7.2) and libreoffice (3.4.4 instead of 3.4.2) repos. Personally I'd like to be lazy and just use Tumbleweed again instead of mimicing what it used to be ;-) Ciao Joerg -- Joerg Mayer <jmayer@loplof.de> We are stuck with technology when what we really want is just stuff that works. What? It isn't "usable" right now? What is wrong with it? Remember, 12.1 _just_ came out, give packages a bit of time to settle down and update _and_ get stable before I can add them to the Tumbleweed repo.

Libreoffice just got added last night to Tumbleweed, so you don't have to worry about that. KDE I need to take a long hard look at, as it can be difficult, as can xorg, to update given that these are core libraries and the amount of interdependancies in them is non-trivial. Combine that, with the fact that I'm supposed to go on vacation in a few days for the rest of the year, so you can assume that there will probably not be any major Tumbleweed updates until January. But as it sounds like you know what you are doing with these repos, Tumbleweed isn't for you, you are on your own :)

I've never updated xorg in tumbleweed, so you aren't mimicing anything. greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

My definition of "Useable" meaning (as you correctly seem to have concluded below): I just need to follow Tumbleweed instead of an (ever increasing) list of .../stable/openSUSE_12.1/ repos :-)

OK, during christmas time it's more playing with opensuse than working with it anyway (and learning more of the details of what changed between 11.4 and 12.1). Some time in January it's supposed to be (mostly) working with it again.
But as it sounds like you know what you are doing with these repos, Tumbleweed isn't for you, you are on your own :)
I will survive for a while - and I do have good backups ;)

OK, then the xorg stuff came from its own repo before anyway. -- Joerg Mayer <jmayer@loplof.de> We are stuck with technology when what we really want is just stuff that works. One could argue to not include dot-0 KDE releases in Tumbleweed but further bugfix releases shouldn't even need any discussion. The latest KR repo should just feed Tumbleweed from dot-1 releases onward. Same with the KDE UpdatedApps repo: Just feed it into Tumbleweed without much discussion. I was under the impression that OBS handles interdependancies almost automatically. OBS does handle things very well, and I'll be glad to do this, when I get the chance to test. At the moment, things are a bit busy given that I go on vacation in a few days... thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
