My question was about using KDE4, not the command line. In KDE3, it was under View, but last night I couldn't find it there. It is in File Management profile, but apparently not in Web Browser profile. Do you mean in Dolphin (now at v1.7) ?

Alt-. or F8 toggles hidden files (just as with dolphin 1.6 (OSL 11.4)

I'd say that was still pretty simple.
