[opensuse-factory] gnome-keyring-daemon gone madddd
Being quite adventurous and nosey, I installed and tried gnome and evolution. I have removed evolution returned to kde4, but gnome-keyring-daemon has gone wild. I have had as high as 2000 instances revealed by 'ps aux' and matching directories in /tmp. This seems amiss and searches reveal others with concerns and some bug reports which seem to be "fixed". Not here. I have removed the keyring directory from ~/.config/autostart/gnome-keyring-daemon.desktop as was suggested on one of the searches, to no avail. Is someone familiar with this condition and is their a solution short of removing all of the gnome*.rpm's? tks, -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I also removed gnome-do and gnome-do-lang to stop the popup from comming up in every kde session. running x86_64 Factory M5 -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It would certainly be useful to know how gnome-keyring is started. Is this using a KDE session or a GNOME session? So how is gnome-keyring started? Is it running after login? Or does it appear when you run a specific application? I don't know, maybe pam?? I have beagle running, could that be it. It appears to generate another instance (or several) for both <user> and <root> about every five minutes. I will watch and advise interval. I would post it now, but just deleted all instances and related directories in /tmp. tks, -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

That doesn't help. What I need to know is: + before you log in, is gnome-keyring running? + when you log in, does that create a new gnome-keyring process? Only one? + when you start the usual apps you're using, does that also start a new gnome-keyring process? Only one? That doesn't help. What I need to know is:
+ before you log in, is gnome-keyring running?
when I log into root at runlevel 3, immediately six instances of gnome-keyring-daemon are started, three each for root ane <user>(pat). And <user> has *not* yet logged in.
+ when you log in, does that create a new gnome-keyring process? Only one?
yes, it appears so: pat 1385 0.0 0.0 50036 2636 ? S 19:16 0:00 /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login
+ when you start the usual apps you're using, does that also start a new gnome-keyring process? Only one?
Possibly, but I am not sure. Looks like one starts for root as it is not on an even five minute interval as *most* are. Almost all instances are starting on an even five minute interval in groups of 3 <user> and 2 <root>. tks -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Well, with no other suggestions forthwith, the following root crontab entry somewhat aleviates an inexcusable system abuse by the gnome desktop: # kill gnome-keyring-daemon instances and remove related /tmp files 30 * * * * killall -9 gnome-keyring-daemon;rm -rf /tmp/keyring-* # Remind oneself to remove all gnome related apps, then reinstall # those few that are convenient. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Okay. Looks like something is going wrong with the pam module in your environment, I would say. Please file a bug and we'll continue there. (as a first step, you can paste the output of "grep keyring /etc/pam.d/*", and then try removing the gnome-keyring-pam package) Thanks, Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

(reformatted, will probably wrap. All lines except first begin with /etc) 11:00 wahoo:~ > grep keyring /etc/pam.d/* /etc/pam.d/common-auth:auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so /etc/pam.d/common-auth-pc:auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so /etc/pam.d/common-password:password optional pam_gnome_keyring.so use_authtok /etc/pam.d/common-password-pc:password optional pam_gnome_keyring.so use_authtok /etc/pam.d/common-session:session optional pam_gnome_keyring.so auto_start only_if=gdm /etc/pam.d/common-session-pc:session optional pam_gnome_keyring.so auto_start only_if=gdm /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver:#auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver:#auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver-smartcard:#auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver-smartcard:#auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so Note: gdm is *not* active, kdm is. Looks like pam.d is not starting it. I will remove gnome-keyring-pam and (-32bit) after this mornings "zypper dup" completes and advise. Should I go ahead and file bug, including diag steps up to now? tks, -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Bug #532521 ps: removing gnome-keyring-pam gnome-keyring-pam-32bit appears to have stopped the unwanted instances. tks, -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
