[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed and Apper
Hi list, I have a short question: Is it possible to configure Apper so that it can be used correctly with Tumbleweed? Background: Updates in Tumbleweed should be executed with "zypper dup" but what Apper usually does is a normal package update without changing repos if needed (please tell me if I'm wrong). If this is really the case, would it be possible to deliver some kind of modiified Apper version or configuration in the TW repositories so that Apper also does a "zypper dup" here? Thanks and best regards Steffen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks and best regards Steffen Support questions are more for the opensuse@opensuse.org list. Updates in Tumbleweed should be done as usual. Dup is only for the distribution upgrade, not for standard updates. You use 'dup' when for example going from 11.4 to 12.1 or Tumbleweed. After that one operation of upgrading your distribution, you use normal updates. The default behavior of Apper should be fine. Be sure to check the more recent documentation concerning the way Tumbleweed is being handled post 12.1 for more details. -- Roger Luedecke openSUSE Ambassador Ind. No. Greg explicitly always states that Tumbleweed *must* be updated with "zypper dup".

Yes, you should do that, too ;-) -- Stefan Seyfried "Dispatch war rocket Ajax to bring back his body!" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Thanks for clarification Stefan!
AFAIK is this list the support channel for Tumbleweed and it is not
only a question how to do something but may be a suggestion for a
change...

I thought I had it down since I was using Tumbleweed before. And my apologies, I was mistaken in regards to the list for Tumbleweed users. Ack, so much stuff to memorize. -- Roger Luedecke openSUSE Ambassador Ind. Thanks and best regards Steffen Maybe you can change this section in your zypper.conf: ## ## EXPERTS ONLY: Per default the solver will not replace packages of ## different vendors, unless you explicitly ask to do so. Setting this ## option to TRUE will disable this vendor check (unless the application ## explicitly re-enables it). Packages will then be considered based on ## repository priority and version only. This may easily damage your system. ## ## CHANGING THE DEFAULT IS NOT RECOMMENDED. ## ## Valid values: boolean ## Default value: false ## # solver.allowVendorChange = false
and try if apper will look for it Daniel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
