Installed version of the plasmoid and Networkmanager-kde4* is 0.9.1git20110911 and other parts of Networkmanager is 0.9.0-7.1 Only used repo in this installation is factory and other x86_64 factory installations don't show that problem. Known problem or should I open a bugreport
Not a known bug. Are you using systemd? Is NetworkManager running in background?
I have seen that message, but only when NetworkManager has not started.

I have the same problem right after installation in VirtualBox from KDE Live DVD. Checking "enable networking" does not seem to do anything. After clicking on "Manage Connections..." I see an empty list of Wired connections and the "Add.." button is greyed out with no possibility to do anything. I do not seem to have NetworkManager running. What is the process name exactly? I found out that by default in yast (under Network Settings) Network Setup Method is set to "Traditional Method with ifup" instead of "User Controlled with NetworkManager". Is it meant to be that way? Changing the setting resolves the issue. My observation is that if your installation does not detect any wireless devices, then ifup will be selected. Of course, a VB guest normally only has a wired interface. That seems to be the case but the net result is that I have no network connectivity after install. And the NetworkManager applet that is the most natural place to go to resolve the problem is not going to work as the backend is not running. -- /~JC -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I just installed the KDE Live CD Build 0345 for i686 on a VB VM. After rebooting, it had selected NetworkManager for network control and the applet was installed, but NM was not running. Once I did a 'sudo /usr/sbin/NetworkManager', the network was OK. I need to explore why NM is not started. That seems to be a bug.
