I'm aware that DVD/LiveCDs were out of the question. However, usually when the main person is unavailable, you would think that they would leave some instructions about changing, the website so that it says to update from Factory.

Have someone change the README.BETA from Milestone 3 to Milestone 4. And assign somebody post on the Factory mailing list with instructions about the Milestone 4 update.
