[opensuse-factory] repair cd

Hello :-) As you may know, the rescue system was dropped from 11.3. One of the main reasons I understood was that it was nearly impossible to get in touch with debuggers while following the new distro building I think it's a shame to lose such good product. So may be we could build an openSUSE live repair cd. That said, I would like to have it boot with Grub like http://www.supergrubdisk.org/, because many solution can be found directly from GRUB is that possible? http://susestudio.com/ don't seems to be able to give a grub cd if you are instersted by such a project, please say so :-) I may create a fate entry if necessary thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

There is no discussion there, only that it was dropped. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. As Christian wrote, possible repair scenarios are more complex than they used to be. On the bright side, many more live media are available than there used to be and from which manual repairs can be performed. I put Grub on a new disk using Knoppix, then install (more than one) Linux after, with each's boot loader on its / partition. Need to repair when using this disk layout method is quite uncommon, at least by needing an OM to do it with. I usually don't burn full installation media anyway, preferring net installs started by first downloading installation kernel and initrd, which I start with already installed Grub. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." yes. First thing to do could be to report them (may be searching from bugzilla) On the bright side, many more live media are available than there used

yes, second thing to do is document the manual solutions.

Yes, I usually do the same, but sometime there is a problem that makes grub unable to pass the first stage, so it's usefull to have a grub disk to boot from anyway, present yast-repair tools are good *sometime* and if you get in the moment it's usefull, why not. Franckly, I never more use the 'automatic' version, but the "expert" tools are not that bad. may be they can be compiled separately as command line tools jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
