[opensuse-factory] plans for kernel 2.6.28
i there any plans for using kernel 2.6.28 in upcoming 11.1 release? kernel is now in rc-4 state. is my assumption right, that if kernel will release 2.6.28 final before 11.1 release, it will be used? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

No, there are no such plans.
is my assumption right, that if kernel will release 2.6.28 final before 11.1 release, it will be used?
Not correct - it would invalidate all our testing. If we would have wanted to go for 2.6.28, we would have put rc1 already into factory, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Director Platform / openSUSE, aj@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

No, sorry. Is there anything specific in .28 that you feel is missing in the .27 kernel release in the openSUSE tree? thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Is being fixed today with the release of 2.6.27.6. So that shouldn't be an issue :) thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

This should work already with the rtl8187 kernel driver that is in the kernel tree. Oh wait, no, that's for the 2.6.28 kernel only, let me see what I can do. Ah, it's a simple device id update, I'll add this to the next 2.6.27-stable release and get it into the next opensuse 11.1 release if possible (I think I missed the deadline, it might be in the first update after GA...) thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I have a problem with my EEEPC 900A and wireless, too. The backported ath5k driver from http://wireless.kernel.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/compat-wireless-2.6.... works fine. Another driver missing for me is the one for af9015 based DVB-T sticks. Kernel 2.6.28 adds a great bunch of new and updated drivers. For the average user it would be nice to have all his new and shiny hardware supported. But that's no problem for me, I can compile the drivers i need myself. If no backport to 2.6.27 is possible, I will make some KMPs available on the BuildService. Just point me to the best place for them... Yes, being a software developer myself, I know this. But I hope there will be some driver backports. I have compiled the latest v4l-dvb and compat-wireless drivers myself. These are approximately the 2.6.28 versions. And it was easy to do this. So it would be nice to offer these additional drivers in some way. Maybe there is some place in the BuildService for them.
