[opensuse-factory] installing without images?
Hello, Is it possible to install the latest factory without using images? I mean I was doing a minimal text install, but instead of just installing about a ~100 packages, six images were deployed in a lot longer time with Xorg, desktop-common, qt4, etc. Then it had to remove many packages, where many of the post remove scripts could not be executed, needing an 'ignore'. This is on factory PPC... Reported a blocker, as over half of the binaries installed on PPC are for x86: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=377997 BTW: as I don't have a working factory right now: is there anything for 10.3 to extract lzma images? I want to check, if the problems are related... Not for ppc, but you can compile http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home%3A/coolo/openSUSE_10.3/src/lz... The images are just tar, so lzmadec < file | tar xf - Greetings, Stephan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

openSUSE-images-KDE-cd seems to have the same content. Can I simply replace the files in /images with those from this rpm? The content seems to be PPC in this file :-) factory:/mnt/factory/images # rpm -qlp /mnt/factory/suse/ppc/openSUSE-images-KDE-cd-11.0-8.ppc.rpm /CD1 /CD1/images /CD1/images/common-base-root.tar.lzma /CD1/images/common-desktop-root.tar.lzma /CD1/images/common-qt.tar.lzma /CD1/images/common-xorg-root.tar.lzma /CD1/images/images.xml /CD1/images/kde_cd-root-meta.tar.lzma /CD1/images/kde_cd-root.tar.lzma /CD1/images/lists /CD1/images/lists/kde_cd-default.ppc.list

Not really, the images.xml only offers the KDE pattern. Which btw may be the reason why you see the problem :) Greetings, Stephan -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Well, the greater problem for me is x86 binaries on a PPC system. I can get along with KDE, especially that KDE4 seems to work a lot better in a low RAM environment, than KDE3 or GNOME. Not as good as XFCE, but still an improvement... So I'll check this hack, just mv images images.x86 and then extract that rpm and see what happens. BTW, isn't it a problem also for x86_64? OK, for a lesser extent as they are able to execute i586 binaries, but still... It's a problem for all archictures. It's pure coincidence that the i586 images-KDE-CD was unpacked last Greetings, Stephan -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

OK, installation using a replaced /images directory worked fine. Can I file bugs against it? For example 'lilo', the boot manager configurator for PPC is missing now, also stage2 in textmode fails due to missing /usr/lib/YaST2/plugin/libpy2ncurses.so.2, etc. Bye, CzP --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

The state you got was most likely out of sync.

OK, then when is the next factory sync with PPC is expected? :) My problem is, that I'll be off-line and far away from my PPC machines from Friday till next Wednesday -> would be glad to test tomorrow... A few more interesting ones: - there is no 'less'... - the installed system can't use NFS, as none of the NFS related packages are installed (it was an NFS based install...), so no package installation is possible... The current imaging solver has only the list of patterns in image (see images/images.xml on media) It seems you've entered an untested mode when the selected installation mode doesn't have its own image-set and takes the 'best-matching' one :) In case of minimal installation, this could even be KDE or GNOME. Yes, please, file a bug report. Lukas
