[opensuse-factory] openSUSE way
Hello community members, Lubos noticed that "openSUSE way" talk [1] got some views (~500) [2] and thus maybe community is interested about it. I am not sure, maybe it is just fancy and attractive name Anyway I found couple of ppl that would like to follow up and check if we could have more easy install and config for complete Sway desktop. During preparation to the talk I have created github project to track progress for it and ToDo for the future of my setup [3]. In the same repo you could find example of dotfiles for config presented in the talk. If you are interested in this project, create cards, issues and work on them. Next steps are to create good pattern [4] and branding [5]. And to push more packages to Factory (wofi). Maybe we even could move that repo/project under openSUSE github org ? So try, migrate and have some fun with Sway and tell us if we could make it better. https://en.opensuse.org/Sway 1. https://denisok.github.io/oSC20-openSUSEway/index.html 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSMxJKSNSjo 3. https://github.com/denisok/openSUSEway/projects/1 4. https://github.com/denisok/openSUSEway/issues/1 5. https://github.com/denisok/openSUSEway/issues/2 Thanks, -- Denis Kondratenko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Actually I think I packaged most of the popular tools from the sway ecosystem in the past. Probably wofi is the only one left. I saw that you maintain wofi in X11:Wayland, can you share what is still missing before it is submitted to Factory? I took some time to create the sway pattern last week. It landed in Factory one week ago :-) [1] Feel free to open submit requests for improvements and polishing.

Let's keep in mind Drew always stresses Sway should be run without a login manager in his opinion. It appears that GDM works fine now (but didn't in the past). People who would like to have the "plain" method can just launch sway from TTY or autostart it upon login from a certain TTY like described in the sway wiki [2]. 1: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/808944 2: https://github.com/swaywm/sway/wiki -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

There is also wayvnc[0] that I tried on my personal machine to see if VNC is usable with Sway. It would be nice to have it in the repo as well, I have packaging it on my ToDo list but have not started yet.

Great!

Sway starts with GDM, but there is still the issue[1] that GDM does not launch it in a login shell and therefore ~/.(z)profile is not read. I use a custom sway.desktop with "Exec=/usr/bin/zsh -l -c sway" to work around that. Other than this particular problem GDM and Sway work fine for me. Actually I didn't package wayvnc on purpose because it is experimental. The Readme states that it depends on aml [1] which has no stable release yet. It also depends on neatvnc[2] which also states " This is a beta release, so the interface is not yet stable." in its Readme. I took some time to package it now anyways. Especially since it doesn't seem to look for aml. So you guys can play with it. Feel free to send maintainer requests or submit requests for improvements once it landed in the devel project. SR#810986 (wayvnc) and SR#810987 (neatvnc) are waiting for review to go into X11:Wayland. 0: https://github.com/any1/wayvnc 1: https://github.com/any1/aml 2: https://github.com/any1/neatvnc -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Thank you! :) you did a great work!

I need to update the package to use service files (as Source URL wouldn't work). See discussion under: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/X11:Wayland/wofi

I have FTO this week and would be testing that pattern and my branding packages and will submit that to your pattern and Factory.

package has desktop file that lands into the correct location. So if ppl do use login manager that supports wayland sessions - they are covered For others there is doc.

Hi Denis, Thanks for the talk and taking an interest in improving sway on tumbleweed! As a sway user myself I thought I'd jump in and contribute other items that I've put on OBS and might be of interest. Two things come to mind: * https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/X11:Wayland/wf-recorder for performing screen recordings * https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/X11:Wayland/light for interacting with laptop backlights I'm not particularly familiar with packaging or with OBS, but I'm happy to try help with any effort to improve sway on tumbleweed. Hi everyone, so there is some progress for July: * wiki portal to document openSUSEway [1] * openSUSEway was updated to 0.8 [2] some highlights: - pattern was added and it is now available during installation - GUI changes and fixes * patterns-sway-sway would become clean upstream Thanks to @jubalh, @agraul and @m-rey for new the features, packages and support :) Next steps you could see on our project board [3]. 1. https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:OpenSUSEway 2. https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/X11:Wayland/openSUSEway/openSUS... 3. https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSEway/projects/1 On 2020-06-30 13:12, dkondratenko wrote:
