Hi Johannes,
The artwork/branding in RC1 is a 'draft' - sadly we didn't manage to
get the polishing done to make it in time..that's the bad news
The good news is .. the artwork team has since completed all the
artwork, and RC2 / Final will ship with a totally new Grub2 theme, and
polished versions of every other bit of artwork, including KDM, YaST2,
kdelibs, xfce, etc
And the really good news is, the polished package includes a refined
startup/shutdown animation (plymouth) which does not have any 3D
running circle. We also removed the text as it was causing confusion
for some.
We've done our best to keep the animation smooth, but ultimately it is
slaved to the performance of your boot process. I'd recommend using
systemd-analyze (especially systedm-analyze blame and systemd-analyze
plot) to figure out what it slowing down your boot process and
optimise it. It will be smooth if your boot process is smooth, and
it'll be fast if your boot process is fast - nothing we can do about
that sadly
Thanks for the feedback, I love being able to say we've already done it ;-)

Dear all!
I have updated two machines for testing with 12.3, and I must say, it's the nicest opensuse I've ever worked with. Congratulations!
There are is one issue I'm having, as on my systems the default route has not been set up correctly via dhcp (see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=802761 ).
A cosmetic thing is the startup/shutdown animation: In my opinion this 3d running circle does a) not fit to the rest of the new design, which is really good, b) is much two fast and c) doesn't run smoothly (here on my machines it frequently stops for parts of a second). I'd like to see something slower and simpler...
Best regards, Johannes
