Hi Jon, thank you for your reply but let's stick to the list and let's not top-post. Am 09.09.2011 23:41, schrieb Jon Rocker:
Here is something to think about. Is it free software as defined under the FSF? Is it under the GPL or some other open source license?
I don't know about GPLed nazi texts.
If both are true then it shouldn't be a problem now should it.We are an open source project and community. Those should be the determining factors not religion or politics or anything else. Just simply is it open source and judging on technical merit.
No, that's not my point. I surely won't judge [enter some despicable content with the exception of gnome here] simply by the rpmlint output. While I have no problem with openSUSE containing religious or pseudo-scientific utilities, I have no problem with the community deciding not to ship certain material either. But I simply referred to the fact that some items of american-style free speech are forbidden or tightly restricted in some European countries. Yes, it involves additional caution to use a product which contains these and it may or may not be judged by the community that it's worth the trouble. Just like there have been export restrictions on cryptography.
Well what if somebody suggested the inclusion of Nazi texts in openSUSE? Would it be then valid to say "if you do not want it, just do not install it"?
It depends. Some of these are forbidden or at least restricted in access in some countries.
