Thanks Felix and Fabian,
Fabian: I did not try leap I was after tumbleweed. the other machines on which I have leap do not have 4k screens. Felix: thanks for the workaround. will be great if in the boot menu we will have an option Installation on 4k... imagine the effect on someone who is not a long term opensuse user.
Once the bug is fixed, it should work OOTB on most devices again. The issue is that we need some solutions for the other cases as well (low DPI misdetected as high DPI and vice versa), so such an option might be needed anyway.

Recently I have been doing a fresh install of my tumbleweed (change of hdd) and I was surprised by the fact the installer does not support 4k screens, the fonts are ridiculously small.
It does, but IIRC, not automatically.
did I miss something? the laptop is Precision 7550 with an intel uhd
Set the screen resolution and logical pixel density used during installation for the graphical installer. Its applicability is limited to the first screen when multiple screens are employed. The option accepts a screen resolution optionally followed by a screen density in dpi. Note this does neither influence the text mode (console) resolution nor set the screen size for the installed system.
# set screen size to 1024 x 768 XVideo=1024x768 # set screen size to 1024 x 768, and set resolution to 100 dpi XVideo=1024x768,100 [/quote]
If your screen is 3840x2160, I suggest any of the following options as a starting point:
or XVideo=2560x1440 or XVideo=2048x1152 or XVideo=1920x1080 -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science.
