You don't need rpm to shoot yourself in the foot.
(Hint: look at the smiley above) By doing what was suggested here: rpm -e PackageKitd PackageKitd-backend-zypp PackageKitd-branding-openSUSE apper you are not shooting any foot. The rpm command is smart enough to verify that dependencies are satisfied; if not, it will simply refuse, unless you force it to go ahead.
