A question. Is there a boot option I could use that would require installer to use my external DVD-RW as installation media? I tried [using 2 Beta 5 DVD's one in internal and one in external drives] 'mount /dev/sr1' and separately 'source=/dev/sr1'. It tried to load installer but ended up with errors.
Download and burn the 'NET' aka "MINI" CD and boot that in the internal drive. It will find an external drive with DVD and seamlessly transfer to that, if present.
Alternatively, if you have a second machine on a network, loop-mount the DVD ISO image and share e.g. FTP, NFS etc. and (you need to intervene manually to) use the NET CD to install from it.

I use both of these methods all of the time, generally very successfully. Thanks. Only one computer here. The mini.iso does indeed work with external DVD-RW. And I get basically the same errors as reported in bug report:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=429344 I believe this diminishes the probability of a hardware issue. Good to know how to use external drive to install from. At least in openSUSE. -- Thanks, ben popatopalous -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
