The day some essential software (such as Firefox) is only available as flatpak on Tumbleweed (whether audited or not), will be the day I seriously consider switching distro. I sort of understand why the trend is to run software into boxes into boxes, but I really dislike it.
That's my feeling as well, and if there's no RPM-based distro left without that weird packaging like flatpak, it's probably time to go back to Windows and at least doing away with all the complication that using Linux means in practice anyhow.
Unfortunately also was. Then you can just take the "original". And save yourself a lot of work and problems that exist under Linux if you are honest.
You are blowing the added complexity out of proportions. I have been
using flatpaks for Firefox, chromium, ungoogled chromium and OBS (the
broadcasting/streaming software) for years now and I haven't faced any
issues, even when removing some permissions of the flatpaks.
