the line of the current download.o.o machine is usually quite idle was we send away like 99% of the traffic to the mirrors. and it wont help with latency in the connect phase. the only thing that matters there is the distance to download.o.o. also the claim regarding dns caching and nscd is irrelevant. mirrorbrain uses the Location header to send you to mirrors. it is not done at DNS level.
