I'm experimenting with GraalVM's native-image, which allows to make a self-contained native binary of a Java program. It has the ability to generate a static binary (except for libc, bare more complexity I will not get into) but it chokes on libfreetype, as this is the only library for which there is no static version. it looks like they should be in package freetype2-devel (its spec file has a "Provides: libfreetype6-devel-static" line), but that package has only .so, but no .a. Is there a reason to this omission, or am I missing something ? It is probably gone for good and that provides is wrong.
Just wondering why you want to statically link it.. if there is a security hole in the library are you sure that you will rebuild the program again when that happens?
